A Surprise in Nishiki Market

My Kyoto story starts with a happy accident. While exploring the colorful Nishiki Market, known for its delicious street food and lively atmosphere, I stumbled upon a quaint little kimono shop. It was like finding a hidden treasure among the buzz of the market.

Dressing Up in History

Stepping into the kimono shop was like entering a rainbow of fabrics. Choosing which kimono to wear was tough as there are so many choices but it was so fun! The shop folks helped me get into the kimono, and even fixed my hair and adorned it. I was instantly transformed. Here’s the heartwarming part: the staff were not only fluent in English but also incredibly kind and attentive. Their guidance was like a gentle hand leading me through a cherished cultural ritual. They transformed the experience of donning a kimono into a warm, friendly exchange, bridging cultures with smiles and shared enthusiasm.

Tea Ceremony: A Personal Touch

I had the unique opportunity to prepare my own matcha. Under the watchful eye of the tea master, I learned the artful techniques of whisking matcha. The process was a dance of precision and care, a meditation in motion. Tasting the tea I prepared was a moment of pride – each sip a reflection of the newly learned skill, imbued with a deeper appreciation for this ancient tradition.

Reflections with a Cup of Matcha

There I was, sitting in a beautiful tea house, out of my kimono but still buzzing from the experience. Sipping on my matcha, I felt this wave of peace. It was more than just a drink; it was a moment to pause and soak in the now.
